Reaching Out to Others
April 29th, 2010 | Sound Off! | Add Your Comment »We recently received this message: “I just wanted to thank you for being here..I am not out but I know who I am..and I am Catholic. Married and have older children..I have known all my life that there is something different about me..But only allowed myself after getting married to understand and name it Catholic lesbian..From here I can at least be reassured that I am not crazy and am not alone. And I am loved by God. thank you!”
If I could have responded to her face-to-face this is what I would have done: Given her a great big hug, held her and kissed her and said – “You must be an incredibly strong and faith-filled person to have withstood all you have been subjected to and still emerge with a true sense of self. Not only are we here for you, but you are an example for us. Not everyone has the opportunity to be “out” – but the fact that you are out to yourself is the most important thing you can do. It took a lot of courage to take the next step, which is to reach out to others.”
